Liverpool open talks with Benfica over Man Utd and Chelsea target Nicola Gaitan

LIVERPOOL are interested in signing Manchester United, Barcelona, Chelsea, Monaco and Atletico Madrid target Nicola Gaitan.

Having already snapped up Lazar Markovic from Benfica for £20m, Rodgers is planning a second raid on The Eagles.

Reports in France suggest the Kop are keen on the winger who has a £35.6m release clause and have opened talks over a transfer as they continue their multi-million pound summer rebuilding.

Liverpool were thought to be considering a move in January but opted to go for Dnipro's Yevhen Konoplyanka instead.

When that move collapsed and relations deteriorated between the two clubs Rodgers set his sights on Gaitan.

Whether Liverpool's interest has been re-ignited by the recommendation of Markovic or the desire to steal a march on their rivals is not known.

The Reds have already spent £60m on new signings, with that figure soon to reach the £100m mark with the additions of Loic Remy, Divock Origi and Dejan Lovren.

The Argentine had reportedly agreed personal terms with Monaco but the French club could not agree a deal with Benfica.

While Monaco's loss could be Liverpool's gain the implication is that the Portuguese side are not prepared to let the exciting 26-year-old go on the cheap.
