Tell me about this team, city, fans etc..
Club with a lot of history in our first division. Some seasons in Europeu too. They had good players for their reality in the past like Fábio Coentrão (he is from Vila do Conde), Taremi and many others. In One season they had Oblak and Ederson in the same Squad.😂

The city is connected with Póvoa de Varzim, they have a huge rivalry between the cities and clubs. Sadly Varzim isn't good for now.

They have less fans than Varzim, even with ONLY one stand, the stadium never have a sold out, unless Porto or Benfica are playing There. A problem that almost every team have here. Hope that Marinakis have a plan for a new stadium.

It's a good club to sell players, nothing more than that.

Thanks for the info. Interesting. I will report here if ever see Marinakis has any plans for the team, other than it being a feeder team.

Interesting interview with Xaristeas by Rio Ferdinand about Euro 2004. What Xariestas says is quite revealing. The Greeks played with zero pressure and rifted off the internal pressure of the other teams they played.

In Scotland at various points there's been talk of smaller clubs merging to become bigger clubs. Due to the long history of the game you have lots of small clubs who don't really add anything to the league, especially in the lower leagues basically village/mining teams but have been around for a long time. At one point Dundee United and Dundee almost merged into one Dundee team as they felt it made more sense to have one stadium and taken on the glasgow teams. Hearts and Hibs almost did in the early 1990's to massive fan uproar as they wanted to make an Edinburgh super team. There's been talk of some of the Stirling teams doing the same.

Has that every happened in Portugal?

On 13 September 1908, Sport Lisboa acquired Grupo Sport Benfica by mutual agreement and changed its name to Sport Lisboa e Benfica. Despite the merger, they continued their respective club operations. For Sport Lisboa, they maintained the football team, the shirt colours, the eagle symbol and the motto. For Grupo Sport Benfica, they maintained the field Campo da Feiteira,[20] the main directors and the club's house. Both clubs determined that the foundation date should coincide with Sport Lisboa's because it was the most recognized club and quite popular in Lisbon due to its football merits. In regard to the crest, a bicycle wheel was added to Sport Lisboa's to represent cycling, the most important sport of Grupo Sport Benfica. Furthermore, the two entities of the newly named club had simultaneous members who helped stabilize operations, which later increased the success of the merger.[17]

Now we have some problems, some SADs change their names and location.

The club was founded on 5 May 2023 after UD Vilafranquense's SAD relocated from Vila Franca de Xira to Vila das Aves due to poor stadium conditions. Vilafranquense went to the AF Lisboa district championships while Vilafranquense SAD (now AVS) secured their spot in the 2023-24 Liga Portugal 2. The new club has no relation to the defunct Clube Desportivo das Aves or its phoenix club Clube Desportivo das Aves 1930 apart from the sharing of its infrastructures. This situation is similar to the Belenenses and B-SAD case which happened in 2018.
