StellasRojas - talk to me about Siniša Mihajlović. Good coach? Did he take bribes from player's agents for team selections?

Could be the next Greek NT coach.

Ugh...what to say about that...the team he played against Croatia in Zagreb is probably the worst Serbian NT I have seen in my lifetime:
Brkić - Ivanović, Subotić, Nastasić, Kolarov - Radovanović, Ignjovski (od 75' Petrović), Stevanović (od 57' Tadić), Tošić - Đuričić, Šćepović (od 9' Đorđević)

Pay attention to Ivan Radovanovic, Radosav Petrovic, Ignjovski, Alen Stevanovic and Scepovic- where they are now.

What shocked me in particular, was the fact that he started with freakin' Marko Scepovic, who Partizan fans wanted to see out of their club as soon as possible, because he was playing there thanks to his father Sladjan. The fact that Mihajlovic was playing him earned him a transfer to Olympiacos, although he was a terrible player.

Mihajlovic had conflicts with Ljajic (that was justified) and Matic whom he did not want to play because he was stubborn and full of himself (Mihajlovic). Yes, I think it is safe to say that he was taking bribes from managers. Scepovic case suggests that. Mihajlovic is very, very stubborn...almost autistic in being stubborn. We started playing good football, full of flair, in the second part of his mandate...but then, it was already too late.

Sounds a very untrustworthy character.

Even though he is a Red Star legend, I must agree. He does not have morals.

The Greek NT has players in the squad who usually get games for the NT regularly - that would not break into the Malta NT. Tzavellas, Tziolis etc.. I get the feeling everytime their is a new Greek NT coach - the first thing certain players do is ask for his paypal account details..

Mihajlovic is not squeamish about that. Anyway, the reason why Greek coaches have no integrity, is that Greek FA only hires those. I'm afraid that when you hear that Greek FA has set its sights on a certain coach, you can already tell that he is corrupted.

Jardim is free...go for him.

Impossible. Even though his name has been mentioned - he is an Olympiacos coach and the EPO will only hire a Greek neutral coach (a coach that has never coached in Greece) or a coach who has coached PAOK, PAO or AEK. Olympiacos only coaches are not allowed. That is why despite the EPO being interested in Michel taking over a few years back - and Michel himself apparently wanting the job, Karagounis recommended he not be allowed to coach the Greek NT after an interview with him in Spain. Karagounis also denied Sakis Tsiolis the chance. That is also why arguably the best coach in Greece - Lemonis - will not be allowed to take the role either.

The EPO is currently looking at washed up nobodies like Angelos Anastasiadis (religious former PAOK coach) and Siniša Mihajlović.

Articles have been written where journalists suggested Jardim (wont be allowed because of Olympiacos association) and Manolo Jimenez (idiotic because he is currently coach of Las Palmas).

Personally, if it was down to me, I would be happy with Michel, Lemonis or Slavan Bilic (the thought of him disciplining the spoilt and childish Greek squad makes me feel really good).  :)

Just as I suspected...it turns out that Partizan orchestrated this shameful campaign against Zvezda. Their hatred is abnormal.

Just take them to court. Daily Mail claimed Marinakis went into the ref's changing rooms at half time at the Karaiskaki vs Burnley. Clear lie. We got the lawyers involved - they rescinded the article and apologised.

I do not have them. But Zvezda version of serbenfiquista published the information. And they are very close to the club.

We have hired Eric Dupond-Moretti, the best lawyer in France. We will skin L'Equipe alive. Already on the 2nd day, they realised what they had done...and started talking about "insiders" and " sources whose names they can not reveal". However, this what they did is good for them....but I hope that we will pressure them into giving the name of an "insider".

Jovic...

We're so shit.

So are we...we sold a player like that in pieces. I remember when he played against Partizan..16 year old, missed a couple of chances...and our coach said at the press-conference: Jovic is to be blamed for us not winning.

Or coming to the stadium, hearing this 130 kg scream at Jovic: Come on..run fat one!

Jovic, obviously and unfortunately, will not be coming back to the 7th strongest league in Europe, from the 4th strongest. That is how players think nowadays. Zvezda fans have the same way of thinking like Benfica fans: "Why would not (some player), come to Zvezda, the former European champion, giant, and on top of that we are playing in the CL". But for players, it is about how strong the league is. Even useless and smug Djuricic said that he would be coming back to Portugal only as a tourist. Sadly, not even Benfica, and Zvezda to a much lesser degree, will ever have the appeal they once had.

I had arguments with some people here, because I said that Jovic would be a starter ahead of Jonas, because he is already a better player and will have a much better career- I think that after Bayern Munich, his next stop is Real Madrid. Everyone can see how he feels the game, his technique, the way he moves on the pitch...and his legs are like two concrete columns, even with all the magic he has in them...When he was 16, one of our tougher defenders said that he was bouncing off Jovic like he was a wall.

How Red Star Belgrade helped spark Liverpool's era of European dominance

Red Star Belgrade have only visited Anfield once before but they left a lasting impression which helped shape Liverpool's era of continental domination.

It was 45 years ago when the clubs met in the second round of the European Cup.

The Yugoslavian champions taught Bill Shankly's side a lesson. Chris Lawler's consolation in a 2-1 defeat in Belgrade in October 1973 had given Liverpool hope but Red Star repeated that scoreline at a stunned Anfield a fortnight later.

Miljan Miljanic's side were applauded off the field by the Kop. It proved to be a watershed moment for Liverpool .

Shankly and his backroom staff decided that a change in style was required. A more patient possession-based continental approach was adopted.

"We realised at Liverpool that you can't score a goal every time you get the ball," Shankly later recalled.

"The Europeans showed that building from the back is the only way to play. When they play the ball from the back they play in little groups. The pattern of the opposition changes as they change.

"This leaves room for players like Ray Kennedy and Terry McDermott, who both played for Liverpool after I left, to sneak in for the final pass.

"So it's cat and mouse for a while waiting for an opening to appear before the final ball is let loose. It's simple and it's effective."

That 2-1 defeat to Red Star at home proved to be the last European game of Shankly's reign. The following summer he quit and it was Bob Paisley who reaped the rewards of the tactical shift.

One of the key changes was at centre-back. Rather than the physical prowess of players like Tommy Smith and Larry Lloyd, Liverpool sought more technical ability back there. Phil Thompson was partnered with Emlyn Hughes.

"Back then, Red Star were one of the most iconic teams in European football," Thompson told the ECHO.

"Their players were very comfortable in possession and it might have opened Shankly's eyes. He changed the way we played.

"Over the course of that season I moved to centre-back to play alongside Emlyn. We were two midfielders playing centre-back but reading the game was one of my biggest strengths and Emlyn was the same.

"Clem (Ray Clemence) was very good with his feet and he would switch play. People talk about the Dutch playing total football but I think they copied it off us.

"The following season Bob came in and he stuck with it. Then success in the European Cup followed."

Within four years of that exit at the hands of Red Star, Liverpool were crowned European champions in Rome. They went on to lift the trophy four times in the space of eight seasons.

Miljanic's reward for winning four league titles with Red Star was the Real Madrid job where he clinched back-to-back La Liga crowns.

"It is necessary that the player in possession of the ball finds himself as often as possible with a very rich choice of several solutions," he said.

"This can be done only when a team's players all take part in the attacking play and in defence."

His style certainly rubbed off on Liverpool as Paisley admitted: "The top Europeans showed us how to break out of defence effectively.

"The pace of their movement was dictated by their first pass. We had to learn how to be patient like that and think about the next two or three moves when we had the ball."

Nearly half a century on, Red Star will finally return to Anfield in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

"The landscape has changed dramatically since those games in the Seventies," Thompson added, "Red Star Belgrade aren't the name now that they used to be."

They are the minnows of Group C and getting back to Europe's elite represented an achievement in itself after a 26-year absence.

Red Star's place in Liverpool's history is significant. They provided the catalyst for Kopites' love affair with Ol' Big Ears.
