Just thought I would say hello from Sydney! I have been visiting this site for years and its great it finally has an English version. Hopefully it can grow and get even bigger!
You guys don't understand how hard it is following Benfica down here!...waking up at 4am in the morning to listen to/watch games. I was born here but Benfica is the only club I support and I have followed them my whole life!
Thanks to everyone on this site. FORÇA BENFICA :slb2:

Yeah I know you lol... I used to be a member of sl-benfica.net a few years ago but that shutdown.
Man.. I keep the Benfica forum alive on SP. I am Paixão. Who else knows me lol?
I was banned from SP last year for telling like 4 portuguese people to go to this other site since the portuguese section was dead... they read my private messages. |: How gay is that? I go there still under this nick but only to download videos.

Yeah I remember you used to be around quite a bit! Quite a few people actually got banned but at the moment it is a bit more lively. I just guess thats the rules they set, after all they don't want to lose members... The video section rocks on that site though, definitely the best part.
I think the forum on here in English can become pretty big. Give it time...
Hey man, welcome. :slb2:
If i may ask, what connection do you have with Portugal to support Benfica?

I am a Portuguese citizen :)
My grandparents moved to Australia well over 50 years ago. I still have heaps of family over in Portugal and my grandfather supported Benfica. Ever since I knew the meaning of football I have supported SLB O0

I hope you can give us some news about Kaz Patafta. He is loaned out to Melbourne Victory!
Welcome mate...O0
Welcome :slb2:
Welcome to this house that is also yours mate.
I would appreciate if you would let us know about the games Kaz Patafta plays Down Under
Firstly I hate Melbourne Victory! Almost as much as I hate Porto ;D
So far Patafta going on loan to Melbourne has been pointless. He has not played much at all. Last game he sat on the bench. He has great talent, I think when he gains some strength he can become a pretty good player. I wish he stayed on loan in Portugal, he needs to learn the language and adapt to the country. I don't think coming back to Australia was a good idea.

Hi,

Hi,
1) Yes I speak some Portuguese but sadly not enough. I speak it mostly with my grandparents. Reading I am ok, but when it comes to writing and speaking it can be difficult when it gets complicated. Living where I do there is basically no education available in Portuguese for adults. I really want to improve it and learn more. My family is all from Algarve in the Loulé area, I am thinking of going over for a while to work and improve my Portuguese. Does anybody know where I can get lessons ? ;D
2) I only support Benfica :slb2:
I watch the games down here though and sometimes I attend them. Football is starting to get more popular down here and my local team is Sydney FC, so I guess I sort of favor them. I wouldn't call myself a supporter though because I don't really care if they win or lose. I prefer Rugby League down here because it is more popular than football at the moment and the standard is high.

So, what do you think about Portugal's national Rugby team making it to the World Cup for the first (and probably last) time?? Or do you only care about Benfica in particular and not the Portuguese teams in general?? I'm only asking because I'm going to watch Portugal play against New Zealand on Saturday in Lyon, France and since you said you enjoy Rugby... Well, just wondering!

I am not really a fan of Rugby Union because I like Rugby League, for those who don't know it is a similar game but I believe it is faster and more exciting. It is really big on the East Coast of Australia and is played in England too.
However I do watch the World Cup for Rugby Union because it is probably the only time for me that the game of Union becomes exciting. I did watch Portugal v Scotland and I was impressed! Even though we lost by almost 50 points we played pretty well and tried our hearts out. I support all Portuguese teams too...
Against NZ on the weekend we are dead! These guys live and breathe Rugby Union the way Portugal lives and breathe football. They might win by around 100 points. It doesn't matter though, Portugal should be happy with how far they got. They can improve heaps in the next few years. The main thing is for them to try their best
G'day!
Just joined the forum and I'll be writing from down under as well.
Born in Lisbon and raised in Sydney, I come from a long line of Benfiquistas.

Ha! The Football Federation over here should be more worried about the terrible standard of our league and officials and our general youth development (or lack thereof)...
A couple of kids throwing chewing gum and plastic cups at referees is the least of their troubles.
Welcome :slb2:
Ahh, the Aussies are trying their best to follow in the footsteps of world class football.
Take Sydney FC, they are about to sign their 4th coach in 56 total matches in existence..(A-League is only 3 seasons old).
That is a great achievement, well done boys...

I think if you have certain skills which are in demand here then you can apply for a visa and get in pretty easily.
Haha...I think anywhere in the world you go and meet people on holidays it is like that. I do the same in Algarve :)
