Art. 6 – The "Viareggio Cup" will take place as follows:
A) GROUP STAGE
1) The first 32 teams will be divided in 8 sub-groups (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8), each one comprising 4 teams, through a draw. 8 teams will be put in the first pot at the incontestable discretion of the organising committee., whose decisions are final and cannot be appealed.
2) The 8 sub-groups will be divided into Group A, which comprises sub-groups 1,2,3,4, and into Group B, which comprises sub-groups 5,6,7,8. Teams put in the second, in the third and in the fourth pot will be assigned to the sub-groups through a draw.
The teams will play each other in a one-leg match of 90 minutes (two 45 minute halves). The ranking will be made with the following standards:
3 points for a victory, 1 point for a draw, 0 points for a loss.
In case of a tie on completion of group matches, group standings shall be decided upon using the following criteria in the following order:
1. Scores of head-to-head matches;
2. Goal difference in the head-to-head matches;
3. Goal difference in all the matches played in the round;
4. Largest number of scored goals in all the matches played in the round;
5. Lowest average age of the list of participating players;
6. Draw. The draw will take place in the offices of CGC situated in Via Vittorio Veneto, 210 in Viareggio) in the presence of the technical-and-disciplinary committee and representatives of the involved teams.

ROUND OF 16

The 4 teams who ended in first place and the 2 best teams among those who ended in second place in each group according to the aforementioned standards will be eligible for the next round. A ranking of the 8 teams winning the sub-groups as well as of the 4 best teams among the second classified ones will be compiled.
According to their record of achievements the 4 teams using the wild card (see Art. 3) will be placed as seeds in the Round of 16, respectively in the first, the third, the fifth and the seventh match. Their positioning in grid will be determined through a ranking based on their record of achievements in the tournament history. They will play against the top 4 second classified teams in reverse order to their respective ranking: the best wild-card team will play against the fourth best second classified team, the second best wild-card team will play against the third beast second classified team and so on.
The other clashes in the Round of 16 will be determined in the same way. The 8 group-stage winners will play each other and the top 4 resulting from the aforementioned ranking will be placed respectively in the second, the fourth, the sixth and the eighth match as seeds. The best one resulting from the aforementioned ranking will play against the eighth best one, the second best against the seventh best, the third best against the sixth best and so on.
Once the combinations are decided upon, the teams will play knockout matches. In case of a tie at the end of the regular time, the winner will be decided through penalty kicks, in conformity with Article 7 of the I.F.A.B. Association Football Rules..
