Alberto Ló foi seguramente o maior ídolo do ténis de mesa Benfiquista, modalidade que chegou a ser, a seguir ao futebol, uma das modalidades mais queridas do Benfica e uma das que deu mais títulos ao clubes, a viverem da nostalgia de outros tempos. Na década de 60, era natural ver-se os principais mesa-tenistas do clube, como Alberto Ló e Oliveira Ramos, serem convidados pelos presidentes para as principais manifestações sociais do clube.
O macaense não foi de todo o mais titulado praticante do clube, esse lugar pertence a Oliveira Ramos, mas acabou por ser o que mais se destacou devido à sua capacidade técnica.
Foi contratado pelo Benfica em 1958, já com 33 anos de idade, tendo sido esta a primeira que poria os pés em Lisboa.

Antes, já tinha brilhado pela selecção Nacional em 1956, nos Mundiais de Tóquio e tendo nos vários confrontos pelo oriente defrontado os melhores do Mundo, triunfado ante Jung Kuotan, que seria campeão do Mundo e perdido tangencialmente por 2-3 com Johnny Leach (na altura do confronto detentor do título mundial individual).
Logo em 56, o Benfica tentou trazê-lo, mas em vão, estava muito agarrado às suas origens. No inicio de 58, ele que era professor da instrução primária, vendo que os seus rendimentos eram parcos para um chefe de família, decidiu aceitar o convite.
Desde logo, foi unanimemente considerado, não só uma excelente aquisição para o Benfica, como também para o pingue-pongue metropolitano, do qual passou a ser, e por mérito absoluto, a figura mais destacada, até por ser o único considerado elemento "fora de série" e passou a ser um dos atletas mais conhecidos do clube.
Em 1963, com 38 anos, pôs termo à sua carreira em Portugal: queria voltar para a família, que deixara em Macau. Recebeu uma Águia de Bronze pelos serviços prestados ao clube.
Retornaria a Macau e faleceria em 1975.
