On Wednesday afternoon(Today), FC Nordsjælland's Women's League team faces one of the biggest and most important matches in history, when they meet Portuguese Benfica in the first round of the Champions League qualification. The Portuguese giants finished in the quarter-finals of last season's Champions League, so it is a big mountain that must be climbed to secure further advancement in the Champions League qualification. But there is great faith that it can be done. This is what Head Coach Chris Sargeant and the two players, Emilie Byrnak and Cecilie Larsen, say.

Emilie Byrnak, captain:

"I feel that we are really well prepared for the match. I don't think we could have had a better preparation and a better start to the league than the one we have had. So it's great to come with a lot of confidence in the backpack when we have to face such a good team.

"Benfica is a skilled team that is aggressive and good at transitions. But their focus is probably more offensively than defensively, so maybe it's defensively that we can tease them a bit.


"We like to play fast and fluid football. So if we can combine out of their pressure, I think we have a good chance of creating something against them.


- It is already historic that we now have to play qualification for the Champions League. But of course, we all aim to ensure that this will not be the end of the road for us. We want more. Once you get a little taste for it, more will want more.


"But it's about focusing on ourselves and our own game. Then of course we have a prelude where we look at the opponent, but if we have a good day ourselves, then we are sure that we will play a good match and get a good result.


Cecilie Larsen:

"Benfica are very physical and aggressive. And they are good at changeovers and lightning fast. They are very male-oriented. But if we can find the spaces we are good at playing in, then they will have a hard time keeping up.

- I feel that the role of underdogs suits us perfectly. The fact that we don't have anything to live up to, but have a role where we can only surprise. We showed it in the cup final two years ago against Fortuna Hjørring, where we were also underdogs. So the fact that we can put our thoughts away a bit and just play football, I think that suits us really well.

- Of course it will be difficult. But it will also be a great challenge. Also to be able to measure ourselves against the big teams internationally.
