Manchester United target Fabio Coentrao is set to re-join his former club Benfica, while Inter Milan have also held talks with the full-back.
The Portuguese star has endured an injury-hit year at the Santiago Bernabeu and has fallen behind Marcelo in the first-team pecking order under new Real Madrid bossRafael Benitez.
Red Devils manager Louis van Gaal is an admirer of Coentrao however Corriere dello Sport has revealed it is a race between Benfica and Inter to sign the 27-year-old.
Coentrao joined Real from Benfica in July 2011 for £20m and a move back to the club where he made his name is tempting for the defender while Inter only want to sign him initially on a season-long loan deal.
Roberto Mancini's side are on the hunt for a natural left-back after falling at the final hurdle in attempts to land Zenit's Domenico Criscito and Manchester City's Gael Clichy.
Inter have approached Coentrao and the Portugal international is set to decide his future with Real bosses by the end of the week.
