Benfica president Manuel Vilarinho has reacted angrily to criticism that the Benfica stadium project is being partially funded by Lisbon City council.
His outburst came after Portuguese member of parliament MP Rui Gomes da Silva had stormed out of a meeting in which Vilarinho was updating the Euro 2004 parliamentary commission over the progress of the project.
Vilarinho had just announced for the first time that the city council were involved in the financing of the new stadium when Da Silva left the meeting and announced to waiting journalists: "We just learnt that the city council was going to invest £7 million in the future managing society of the new stadium.
"This represents a change in the entire picture we had concerning the financing of the two new Lisbon stadiums and places the city council as one of the owners of the Stadium of Light.
