The club was founded in the centuries-old pub U Fleků in Prague (then also part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire), by a group of students from Split: Fabijan Kaliterna, Lucijan Stella, Ivan Šakić and Vjekoslav Ivanišević. They went to the pub following a match between AC Sparta and SK Slavia and decided it was time their own town founded a professional club. They all knew how popular the sport was in Split (their home), and how well their friends there played.

The club was officially registered with the authorities on February 13, 1911. While trying to come up with a name for the club, the students went to an old teacher Josip Barač for advice, and according to accounts he told them to take the name "Hajduk" which symbolized "that which is best in our people: bravery, humanity, friendship, love of freedom, defiance to powers, and protection of the weak. Be worthy of that great name."

Hajduks were romanticized bandits that fought the rule of the Ottoman Turks. It is speculated that famed hajduk Andrija Šimić, who triumphantly arrived in Split in 1902 to cheering crowds (after a long stint in an Austrian prison), was perhaps the inspiration for the name. The founders subsequently designed the club's emblem and a group of Catholic nuns from a monastery in Split created copies which were distributed to fans.

Hajduk gathered the pro-Croat party of citizens of Split, Croat unionists or puntari. That is why the club specifically has the name "hrvatski nogometni klub" (Croatian football club) and has the Croatian coat-of-arms in its crest. The club itself was against the Austrian-Hungarian government's policy of not allowing the unification of the Croatian provinces and keeping them separated (the government and the emperor did not allow the reunion of Dalmatia with the rest of Croatia). Hajduk's first opponent were Calcio Spalato, the club of an autonomist party from in Split, and the match ended with a 9-0 (6-0) victory for Hajduk. The first to score for Hajduk was Šime Raunig.

In 1912, Hajduk played their first match in Zagreb against the HAŠK football club, and lost 3-2. The first international match against an eminent opponent was held in 1913 against the Czech squad Slavia Prague, which at that time were one of the strongest squads in Europe. Hajduk ended up losing the game by 1-13. After the formation of the Kingdom of the Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes, Hajduk first played in Yugoslav league in 1923, but they did not rank too well at the end of that season. In their first international match Hajduk defeated Olympique Marseille by 3-2. In 1933, eleven years after their first match, Hajduk defeated HAŠK 7-1.

Hajduk reached their first period of glory in the late twenties, when they won two Yugoslav championships (1927 and 1929), which earned them a slot in the Central European Cup. Some of the best players in that period were Leo Lemešić and Vladimir Kragić. During the 6 January Dictatorship the adjective "Croatian" in "Croatian Football Club" was forcibly replaced by the adjective "Yugoslav" to the dismay of the team. Furthermore, the 1930s proved disastrous for Hajduk, as they won no tournaments or championships, and only had some success in foreign matches. They did manage to win one title during the Banovina of Croatia era in 1940-41.

In brief,bribery and corruption in our club from 1994.( start of our friendship in CL capaign) up to 2011. and the current structure in club.

Much worse things happen in Croatian football where everything is unfair and illegitimate,and much more illegally. Hnl is one of the most funniest leagues in Europe ,league in which our hateful rival Dinamo has B team in same competition for many years and their boss Z.Mamic holds complete country and he doing what he wants because rules and laws are not the same for everything. He decides all about Croatian national team,licences in league,results ......

Hajduk slowly grow-up and returns debts of previous directors in club so we expect a full recovery in about 2 years and then we shall reign.

Situation is much worse than in Portugal,but Benfica and Borussia Dortmund are clubs for roadmap!

Yes,and that is "open secret" even sport inspection ordered to dropping Lokomotiva in 2.HNL ,but they are stronger than the state and any law. BURLESQUE!

Hajduk besides the dark times haver more people in Stadium than Dinamo. Even their fans are intelligent to not care about that team. And Ruben Lima is a traitor or not?

Hajduk and Dinamo having approximately the same nuber of fans in Croatia and abroad,but here in Dalmatia Hajduk is symbol and sanctity similar Benfica in Portugal.

Unfortunately,most of time Hajduk does not help from the City of Split whose owns of club ,and Capital City of Zagreb give fishy capital every year to Dinamo.

Been to Split last Summer, and to Zagreb, Pag, Hvar. One of our favourite countries in our Inter Rail, drinking Croatian beer while riding the boat in the warm waters of Hvar was one of the best moments of my life.

Funny story for you, Andrija Balic 16:

While in Zagreb, I was looking for a lighter on a small shop and asked if they had one with Luka Modric, but there was none. So I saw a lighter from Hajduk Split and bought it. Later in our trip we went to many other countries and one of those was Serbia. In there we met a few people and when one of the guys saw my lighter he said I that owning that lighter in Belgrade was a bit dangerous! ;D

NK Lokomotiva is a Croatian football club based in Zagreb, currently competing in the Prva HNL, the country's top division. Founded in 1914, the club's only period of success came in the late 1940s and early 1950s before spending most of the following five decades as lower-level minnows.

In the mid-2000s Lokomotiva was turned into Dinamo Zagreb's farm team and between 2007 and 2009 they won three consecutive promotions which saw them rise from fourth level to first level in the Croatian football league system. They host their home matches at Dinamo's Stadion Maksimir, as their own ground in the Novi Zagreb's Kajzerica neighbourhood is unsuitable for top level football.

Hi,bro!  :victory: :smitten: We cant dominate in our football still,but just 1 or 2 yeasr nad than we will be the strongest sporrt club in Croatia apsolutely!

HNS (cro football "union") again made a show,they introduced travesty rules: when fans shout " Hns pederi,nogomet ste sjebali" or "Mamiću,cigane" ,then unfair and undscropoulos referees interrupt the game so last night game have 116 minutes. TRAGEDY AND SHAME!

Some our young wonderkids have potential for best clbs in Europe among which is Benfica: They are Vlašić,Balić(my nick),Maloku,Milić

But Dinamo works fine too in Formation, and they have Mamic! You think still you can dominate the Croatian football in a couple of years? I'm aware you sold Josip Radosevic to Napoli 2 years ago. The players you said are very young 16, 17, except Milić.  It's good they are already playing in 1.HNL and I hope you qualify for the group phase in Europa League it will be very good for them and the club of course.

Tell me about HNK Rijeka, I'm curious.

Yes,thats our objective for next season( qualifying for EL gropu stage)

Rijeka have rich owner and smart president and they now better and financial especially than Hajduk,they have chance tomorrow take a Croatian Cup against Dinamo and I think they will win because at home ,Rijeka not lost all the season as Benfica also,but they completely different in pact with Mamic and Dinamo given/loaned 8 players to Rijeka this season and that is main reason for their quick revival. Rijeka planning to build new stadium on same place and that will be the most modern stadium in Croatia. So,Rijeka should remain stable factor and top3 team in country apsolutely....

Today is also final of U19 CUP : Hajduk vs Rnk Split

They have more money,actually their president Zuzul who brought them from fourth to the first league,but they never in history completed before Hajduk Split at the table and they only win vs Hajduk 2 or 3 times in history.

In friday Split play vs Lookomotiva(dynamo 2) for competioning in Euro League next year,I wish luck for them,but our clubs dont like each other although distance between of stadiums is just 1 km( similar as Liverpool and Everton)

Even Israel and Cyprus are ahead of Croatia. The clubs have to make a good performance in EL in next years. Have you seen our position? 5! Ahead of France and Russia. Rich countries with rich clubs. And we are closing in Italy, with Benfica eliminating Juve, I think next year we are ahead of them, I'm not sure. So you don't need a lot of money to be a top team. Benfica is the example and there are others, like Porto, Borussia Dortmund (this with a little more money), Everton (this year with Roberto Martinez). But this you cannot achieve yet, it will take time, and your league must be more competitive. The key is hiring a great coach, do it and your club will grow, and you don't need a lot of money.

Final day of Cups( Juniors and senior) in Croatia passed. HNS MAFIA and NK Rijeka( winner of Croatian Cup 13/14) di not allowes to play final U19 match Hajduk vs Split at stadium and they placed above the law and rules whick HNS themselves bring. TOTAL SHAME and another spank to our club.

Not just it,we have traditionally played on "RAMLJAKOV MEMORIJAL" in Zagreb organized by Dinamo and today they give officila list of tournament without Hajduk because of bad relationship between clubs( ridicoulos,that takes years ago) and they refused to play on KUP SV.DJE( our traditional tournament where Dinamo play every year) . Very important information is that Benfica participates on Mladen Ramljak tournament and we really want finally connecting our clubs and cooperation so first that Benfica refuse to play that and than friendly match at summer etc.

Tonight all eyes arrived in Torino,place of happiness I hope so and removal Gutttmann curse!  ::) :flagglorioso:AJMOOOOOO

Hajduk Split fans demand Croatian FA chiefs step downThousands of Hajduk Split fans held a mass protest against the Croatian Football Federation (HNS) demanding the resignation of its president, former Croatia international Davor Suker, on Saturday.
Up to 20,000 people from Split and other areas of southern Croatia joined the protest in the city centre organised by the Hajduk supporters group Torcida under the title "Against the darkness, against the force", local media reported. "We demand the resignation of the key people in the HNS and we appeal to the authorities to stop irregularities and injustice in Croatian football," Torcida spokesman Damir Gruic told state radio. HNS spokesman Tomislav Pacak told Reuters it had no comment "for now", but may release a statement on Sunday. The protest was called after Croatia's biggest derby was scrapped last Saturday when visitors Hajduk refused to play against champions and league leaders Dinamo Zagreb after their fans were banned from entering Maksimir Stadium. Hajduk and their supporters said it was not just those blacklisted as troublemakers who were not allowed into the game in Zagreb and saw the move as further proof of discrimination against their team. Dinamo said they had been provided with the list of troublemakers by police. They have complained for years that HNS decisions are influenced by Dinamo, putting main rivals Split at a disadvantage. Hajduk have had to play three home matches this season in an empty stadium as punishment by the HNS for crowd trouble. Dinamo have won the last nine Croatian league titles.

Going to Split in August !!!!! It already feels like I'll be Benfica friendly town.

It will be awesome the derbi between Dinamo and Hadjuk since BBB will comeback to the stands after the Mamic PIG went to Jail.

Zan Ojdanić was the spiritus movens of Hajduk's renaissance and a true legend of Torcida, respected all over Croatia

Hajduk community is in mourning, as news came from Sinj on April 2. 2016 about Žan Ojdanić (45) dying in a parachuting accident. As it is not easy for us to write about this, it is the best to share the thoughts written by Our Hajduk community page;

"Great people live through their great works. Žan Ojdanić was a great man. One of the initiators of Hajduk fans fighting for justice and fairness, for a better world. Icon of The North Stand and a dear friend.
Emptiness is what remains, just pain and lack of words to express our grief. Part of us is torn out forever to be connected again somewhere else, in time. Separated, but never lost.
Žan proved to us that it is possible to live for the ideas, and those ideas will remain written in eternity with him. They will live in us. And Žan will follow us from above, together with Pavo.
We thank destiny for allowing us to walk together.
Žan Ojdanić was the initiator and primary participant in the fight, which is finalized within Hajduk being the Club we know today - The Club whose work is based on the honorable foundations of democracy. If there were no Žan Ojdanić, there would not be Our Hajduk."

His friends gathered tonight on The North stand of Poljud stadium honoring him, and Hajduk team will wear a black ribbon on their sleeves during tomorrow's match against Split.
