Hello Benfica fans!
Really good to see we've drawn a club with such great supporters.  :)

Obviously Benfica are favorites for the tie but a still have a decent amount of hope we can get through, either way it's just great to get this far and at least if we do go out, it won't have been at the hands of spurs or chelsea.
:flagglorioso:

welcome  :)

I'm sure it will be 2 great matches between 2 great clubs, and I really hope that whoever comes out victorious from this will get to the final and win it.

obviously I'm hoping it will be Benfica  ;D , but if not, I'll root for Newcastle  ^-^

Hi, Another NUFC fan  :amigo:

Pretty much the same as above. I would imagine I would want Benfica to go on and lift the cup if you put us out. Really looking forward to our home game, just hope we  are still in the tie by then.

I will be watching your match tomorrow night on my computer  :slb2:

Welcome mate.

We respect you guys, although you're facing some injuries and have Debuchy and Gouffran cup tied. At this point, there are no weak teams. It was good to avoid Spurs for now, and Rubin because of the long trip, but Basel would certainly be easier, for example.

Great avatar,

Baía didn't see that coming.

That's an outstanding free kick  :smitten:

Thanks for the warm welcome guys, will be rooting for Benfica to win the competition if we don't get through. Good luck in your title challenge as well, I will be watching your game tomorrow.

I really doubt things will get decided on 1st leg, and if you score here it will complicate things for us D:

will watch your match tomorrow too, and with our support you'll completely crush Wigan  ;D :smokin:

Their version of the Lush Lasses thread is fairly awesome. Maybe even better than ours.

Welcome to all Newcastle fans :)

For the ones who will be watching our game tomorrow, be ready to watch something very different from our european matches. In the title race in Portuguese League he can't drop points anywhere and tomorrow it's a crucial away game in a stadium where we always struggle to get something so unless he score early you can expect a proper fight, bad refereeing and all. It will probably be a more emotional match for us than the Europa League first leg.

You simpathy towards our fans is really unique, I honestly don't remember our fans being so well "online received" with anyone else :) Let's hope both sides can still respect each other after the matches.

I think we aren't as favourites as some people seem to think we are. At least on paper your squad is very strong, particularly on the midfield. And I fear our rotation. Our starting XI against Bordeuax at home was unbelievably weak (so much that the team even though we won the left the field under intense booing), if he does the same against you we are pretty much fucked.

PS- Unfortunately Laurent Robert didn't perform very well for us, despite that amazing free kick. Some wonderful goals he scored at SJP  :bow2: (one of them mistakenly credited to Santiago Muñez!!  ;D)

I really hope Santigo Muñez can't play, otherwise we're going to save some serious problems.

Yeah it's strange. I have always respected Benfica, but as we have never played, each other before and Newcastle hasn't been in Europe as much these past 10 years compared to 1995-2004, and are also the Portuguese league isn't followed as much over here as other leagues like Spain, Italy etc then you don't notice Benfica as much as we should.
It's not until we are scheduled to play that you do all your research and realise just how big and prestigious your club actually is. That pre-match eagle show is fantastic, as is your stadium, and it's good to see your club on the rise again after a disappointing (by your standards) period (Souness  >:(). I'm quite looking forward to watching my first Portuguese league match tomorrow night.
