Pathetic decision by Marinakis.

Don't follow Greek football much, but I don't think it was a wise decision, even though I'm not Bento's biggest fan.
He had a few bad results in a row, but at least they should have let him finish the season. He would have been champion, that's very likely.
What are your thoughts, Faliro?

Firstly it was not the results specifically that got him fired - it was what he said after the PAOK game (imo what he said was totally reasonable - but Tudor was sacked by PAOK for a similar utterance - Greeks seem to hate any admission the other team has better players).  :estrelas:

Secondly - I think it is a poor decision. Bento has been planning this game against Besiktas for weeks now. I even seem to see that he was resting certain players vs PAOK for the Besiktas game.  I would have let him have the Besiktas game and taken it from there.

Thirdly - Bento has been fantastic for youth. Androutsos is now a starter at 18 for fucks sakes (dont touch him Benfica).. unimaginable before. I think who ever replaces him will perhaps not be as respectful of youth development as Bento was. And surely that is where Olympiacos is atm? A youth development team.

Finally - I feel Bento's fullbacks cost him his job. De La Bella and Figueiras offer nothing. For years Olympiacos has relied on hugely attacking fullbacks to help with the attack, assist and score.. Torosidis, Xolebas, Masuaku, Pantos etc etc... These two can't even tie their shoelaces..  Another problem was motivation. Bento was very softly spoken and pensive. I question whether he can fire up a team as much as a Vitor Pereira can.

Now to see about replacement. I would be happy with either Michel or Lemonis.

Leave it to Paulo Bento to somehow fail at one of the easiest jobs in football.

Under 19 coach Vouzos is now caretaker manager.

Ibagaza, Pantos and Rantos are the main assistants.

Some dirty laundry? I am sure you would be interested so here it is.

Bento was annoyed at the administration pushing Tsori, Cambiasso and Marin to play  constantly. He also did not want to sell Elabdoui or Milivojević in the winter. Bento believed Marin could not last more than 60-65 minutes!  :buck2: Bento refused to say goodbye to the players today.

As for the replacement?

Michel now gone to Malaga today. Philippe Montanier is the other option.

Marcelino is free ! That would be a good bet. :)

My goodness he has a good CV. Would take him over Philippe Montanier any day.

Olympiacos if you are reading - you know what to do.

Marcelino would win the greek league without losing a single match. He will be one of the best.

Just posted his name on an Olympiacos facebook fan page.

Hopefully someone connected sees it.

Edit: sadly the communists in charge of the page have deleted my message!  :2funny:

Can only hope Modesto is aware of him.

Paulo Bento is a hardliner. A true general.

Great coach, in my opinion. Very underrated. He did an amazing job at Sporting Lisbon and a very good job in the Portuguese national side. Now in Brazil things didn't go as well for him but it's supremely hard for a foreign coach to succeed there.

I think he will fare well in Piraeus and bring stability to the team. Goid results will follow. I wish him all the best. He's a great human being. He has a great character that players respect. He's very humble but stern and hard-working.

Marcelino is a top manager.

Sorry for my words but i highly doubt he would have any interest joining the greek league.
