Watched the game. Was a little confused why Samaris was not given some minutes so he can get used to the stadium/fans/style etc..  I know Samaris is 100% fit, he played the summer friendlies and was training until the day he left for Lisbon.

Seems JJ believed those in the bench were not good enough..

He didn't play because he had just arrived to the club, it takes time to adapt to a new system and possibly to a new position.

Also, Almeida was playing very well, no point substituting him. Enzo was not at his level but  it's still Enzo.

Samaris IMO shouldn't have played. Undeniable quality, but a player with 90 minutes of game time only can't go all in on CL. Artur same shit as always, thankfully he was sent off, we played better with ten. But Jardel, CB, one of those classic substitute players fucked up hard, 2 wrong decisions, 2 goals. [sarcasm] I liked Zenit's CB, nº 24, Garay i think I heard he was a bargain for 6M only. We could go and get him. [/sarcasm]

Yes CL is another level, here you can evaluate better a player, but this isn't the case, I speak for myself, I've always knew that Jardel has no quality for starting in Benfica, good for 3º/4º option, but not for starting 11. Offensively he is very poor. And that is extremely important when the CB's are the players that have more ball in a football match, the attack starts with them.

About Samaris, he as quality, no doubt. But he doesn't know/mastered completely the team processes, which are not easy. He's still in the adaptation phase.

About JJ, I didn't understand completely the question.
