Sport Lisboa e Benfica

In Lisbon, my favourite place is Belém...but they are fucking it with stupid buildings...

It's not Lisbon, but is close enough...the best place in Lisbon region and, perhaps, in Portugal (for me) is Sintra.

:D :D :D

Been to Sintra a couple of times on HS trips. Lovely place, indeed.

Linha de Sintra however...

Two thumbs up for Sintra. Though the village is quite gorgeous, during the Winter, at night, with fog, the forest acquires a very special atmosphere.

It seems a beautiful city.

I like Lisboa quite a lot and miss it very much.

My latest hobby before leaving was walking around the historical center, visiting the alfarrabistas (old bookstores with decade-old editions and very cheap prices), I've even made a map for it. Walking around, up and down the narrow alleys and streets, with the Portuguese pavement under my feet, always felt special to me, while having the river and the sea visible from most places added a bit of mystique to it.

One of my best experiences was when me and a couple of friends went to Cacilhas (on the other side of the river) to have some wine and fried cuttlefish (a specialty of the region). Coming back to Lisbon on a cacilheiro (classic old boat) with our spirits very high due to Bacchus nectar, we witnessed the twilight, while bouncing on the waves. Then we went to explore the old part of the city and... This was absolutely amazing, but somehow we got into a hidden square, surrounded by old buildings, a very unusual and different sight from the rest of the city. The square was filled with ordinary people, the kind of people that live with the minimum wage but still smile throughout the day and the years. Apparently a couple of that neighbourhood had just married on that day and by pure coincidence, when we got there, it came out of nowhere a guy with a classic guitar and dared the groom to sing with him playing, so they started playing and singing Fado. In a second, the whole square joined in unison, people (probably) from the wedding, people on the sidewalks just crossing by out of coincidence, people on the windows from around the whole square. Then as soon as it ended, everyone just casually dispersed and went on with their lives. A magic moment, that lasted no more than 5 minutes, but that gave me the chills and I will forever remember it in my mind.

PS: The song was "Lisboa Menina e Moça".

Sounds like a special moment to remember.  :)

I love Lisbon.

Miss the times I spent there...

Corcunda

Lo! Cintra's glorious Eden intervenes
In variegated maze of mount and glen.
Ah, me! what hand can pencil guide, or pen,
To follow half on which the eye dilates,
Through views more dazzling unto mortal ken
Than those whereof such things the bard relates,
Who to the awe-struck world unlock'd Elysium's gates?

Our Championship is a joke. The game between Braga and Porto was a disgrace.
