Luxembourg, March 6, 2015 - As the CEV step up their efforts to further grow and develop volleyball in Europe, an emphasis and a focus is being put also on the future of the European Cups. In order to pursue this long-term goal, a working group was organised on Friday, March 6, in Luxembourg to collect as many inputs as possible from all stakeholders involved in the organisation and management of European club competitions.

As the CEV are working on a comprehensive vision for the future of the European Cups, all stakeholders enjoyed the opportunity to feed in their ideas starting from their respective background and the experience they have had from a political, technical, as well as from a marketing and communication standpoint. They also could identify areas where there is still room for improvement and provide inputs for possible amendments to the current European Cup system.

They all agreed upon the necessity to continue to work hard in order to improve the media exposure of all club competitions and to deliver – though different levels of excellence are to be envisioned depending on the European Cup competition that the teams are entering – a real volleyball show for the enjoyment of fans and all stakeholders.

"There is a general consensus on the fact that we have to continue to work hard to improve on the quality and marketability of the European Cups," CEV President André Meyer said. "This working group has helped us gather ideas and proposals that will now be re-discussed at a second meeting in May before they are eventually submitted in a more structured way to the CEV Board of Administration for further analysis."

"Any approved changes to the current European Cups system will be introduced with the start of the 2017 season and we will continue to join forces with all stakeholders represented here today in order to take the European Cups to the next level and work on a product that will draw the attention of fans, sponsors and media alike."
