Derek is a versatile guard that can play either the PG or SG. He is an excellent PG who can thrive in both the half-court game and at a frantic pace. Derek is a deadly shooter who has shown range and great accuracy throughout his pro and college career. A true competitor, Derek thrives in the clutch and is nearly flawless from the free throw line. Derek is a true floor general that can be a team's lead guard, but he can also be the main scorer of any team when called upon. Derek has had a very successful career overseas as he was the top guard in 2011-2012 in Japan and after college he spent 3 years playing in the top league in Germany and was one of the top PGs in Germany. In 2009 Derek was named to the German Bundesliga All-Star Game. He also spent one season in the NBA Developmental League. Derek played in the NBA Summer league with the Atlanta Hawks.

Derek had a storied college career at Gonzaga, where he was named to the WCC All-Tournament Team in 2005 and 2007 and All-WCC Team in 2005. Derek was also named All-WCC Co-Player of the Year, All-WCC 1st Team, and WCC Tournament MVP in 2007. He finished is collegiate career as the second all-time career free throw shooting percentage leader in NCAA Division I history (93%). Gonzaga's 12th all-time leading scorer, second all-time in steals, Raivio is also fourth in assists and fourth in three-point field goals made. Prior to Gonzaga, Derek played for Mountain View High School in Vancouver.
