Abel Xavier has raised fresh doubts about his future at Everton by admitting he fancies a move back to Benfica.
"There isn't a Portuguese player abroad who wouldn't like to return to his country," the defender said. "Benfica are a national symbol."
The Portuguese international 's contract runs out at the end of the season and he can talk to other clubs from January.
"I don't want to comment on the possible interest or negotiations," he added.
Xavier, though, could not conceal his admiration for the Lisbon Eagles.
"If there's a club I know well it's Benfica," said the 28 year old. "I was there for some time and am aware, as much as anybody, of the greatness of the club.
