Olympiacos Piraeus

You miss Zagorakis, Giannakopoulo, Nikopolidis and that generation? :p

Godescalco

Both Katsouranis and Karagounis were good players in their prime time. Now they're obviously old and slow.

Olympiakos did have a great mix of players in the mid 90's and early 00's: Alexandris, Djordjevic, Giannakopoulos, Giovanni, Eleftheropoulos, Karembeu, Castillo, etc.

Great times!

Eleftheropoulos, what a flop.

Eleftheropoulos, what a flop.

"The Eagle." He was a good keeper. Played for 9 seasons in Piraeus.

What has destroyed Greek football internationally is the treatment of the Greek youth, who have been given virtually no time, even in friendlies. Also the mafia that allows shit players like Tziolis and Maniatis in the midfield, that is already the slowest in the World Cup is beyond a joke. Katsouranis and Karagounis are finished and hurt Greece massively.

The destruction of Ninis and Fetfazidis has been terminal. Those two both played well in internationals and won qualifiers for greece single-handedly.. only to be dropped...

Players that we have never replaced are players like Tsiartas. He was instrumental. Zagorakis was a great personality and the quality of Stelios is also missed.

I met Eleftheropoulos in an airport once and got his autograph. He was reading all the trashy sports Greek papers in a cafe waiting for a flight for a CL game. He seemed quite immature. Excellent shot stopper and reflexes, but like many keepers who could have been something..suffered from Vampirism - fear of crosses.

As far as keepers go, we have a good one in Granada's keeper - Karnezis.

He looks like Roberto in that photo. ;D

He was talented, but never had the coaching he needed to take it to the next level. He was also a sensational penalty stopper. He was also a bit of a big kid.

The first recollection I have of Greek football was AEK being champions in 93. Tsiartas was massive.

But that Thrylos' team of 96 onwards won my affection.

Faliro

Yea, we dominated after that.

Here is the only video I could find of Tsiartas's days in Sevilla. I doubt I will see a Greek with his ability and left foot again, natural ability he has was sensational:

He did well at Sevilla. Very good player indeed.

Speaking of AEK, I remember Lagos being a huge promise. What happened to him?

Faliro

Never released the potential he showed.  :bah2:

I remember Nikolaidis being the star of Greece in 2004 and he badly played ahah

Faliro

He was an interesting player. AEK legend - they adored him - much more than Tsiartas..

I never rated him, but he had a knack for scoring out of no where and considering his size, it was quite interesting. He is one of the long list of German born /German raised footballers.

Capel? Always staring at the grass... That's why he's a completely joke.

If he's no good for sporting he can't fit Olympiakos.
