Thing is..players are constantly saying 'fuck off' to the ref..
Now these guys are starting to see yellows for this.

What could have Andre said that worth a red? 'fuck your mother in both holes you stupid ref' ??
The ref prolly wrote that down on his report. Well, not verbatim... but something like "gratuitous insults to the ref".

Have no ideia what he said, but the ref reacted instantly and Andre almost didn´t argue

Refs sometimes are mad. The Greek ref who sent of the player I was talking about last month reacted instantly with a card having just yellow carded the same player seconds before. I was thinking.. wow, for a Greek to get that angry, must have been a massive insult...my mind was thinking.. what could he have said?  Turns out it was just 'malaka.'  :coolsmiley:

Perhaps UEFA have sent out a memo to all the refs to start enforcing and punishing 'dissent.'

Maybe, just like that new "rule" of showing a yellow card to players who ask for a yellow card to other players.

In any case,I think refs should have a bit more sense in this situations and understand that sometimes players have this reactions in the heat of the moment. A different thing is when they go overboard with their reactions. Don't know if that was the case with Andre

For me what pisses me off is that refs are not consistent. One player can swear at a ref all night, not even a yellow - another ref - straight red.

One ref books any player he sees asking for him to book another player. The next game the same ref will not book players doing the same.

That is the kind of stupid behaviour UEFA should be stopping in refs. If you want to be an authoritarian - perfect. Do it. But do it in all the games you ref - including European games.

Seems to me - many of these refs have certain nights where they are very emotional and strict and other games where they are smiling and laughing with the players.. this is the kind of mood swings I expect from a girl someone is dating, not a professional referee.

It's different to say Foda-se(fuck) or merda(shit), which are said on a regular basis, from saying filho da puta(son of a bitch).

By the ref instant reaction and the fact that Andre didn't seem surprised...I'm guessing the last one.

Yeah, that's the problem, when the same referee decides differently in similar situations from match to match,or even worse,in the same match. Honestly there's nothing UEFA or other authorities can do about it because within the rules there's always a space left to the interpretation of the referee and they will always find a reason to their decisions

Faliro

I remember Seb Blatter saying some shit years ago that contentious decisions add to spectacle of football.. when he was campaigning against goal line technology. It seems the same ridiculous culture is with the refs. And how shit are those extra referees behind the goal. They seem to constantly miss hand balls and when they do call penalties for fouls - they often get it wrong...

Anyways if Boavista can do some damage to Porto, I would say you clear favorites for the league.

sbremoved_28408

Contentious decisions certainly add to the "spectacle" of the game. At least in Portugal we have TV shows to discuss football in which 90% of the time is spent talking about referees  ::)

Regarding technology,I was always in favour of the goal line technology and maybe video when there are doubts whether the foul was committed inside or outside the box. I think that in other situations it will always be difficult to implement technology.

Boavista have a squad that was built to play in the third divison. They have some of the worst players I've seen in the top flight in Portugal. On the other hand, they work their socks off, just like their coach,Petit (our former player),used to do. They also play on artificial pitch and porto has some important players suspended/injured. In theory it's a good match for a surprise and Boavista somehow managed to draw with porto in the first match back in September. But honestly,I think porto will end up winning confortably.

So a slightly better team than PAOK..?  ::)

These artificial pitches... never liked them.

Missed the game.

Was the ref a joke?
Our detractors complain about a corner that shouldn't have been awarded and also a Moreirense player being sent off for simply arguing with the referee.

He didn't argued with the referee. He simply said: "Estás comprado, filho da puta. Ladrão do caralho".
Sending off was a good decision.

Oh, you could hear it? I was having dinner at the time so I wasn't paying full attention to the game in the first 15 minutes or so of the 2nd half.

But yea, calling a ref "filho da puta" is deserving of harsh punishment. I knew it'd have been something like that.

"Son of a bitch"? That's more like "filho da mãe". "Filho da puta" is closer to "mother fucker", which is a lot more offensive than "son of a bitch".

I didn't hear it. Someone who was on the pitch told me.

Oh, I thought it was overheard on tv or something.

None of these insults translate well. Filho da puta/Hijo de puta is much stronger than those english counterparts.
