Faliro, there has been news in Greek newspapers about the future of Marco silva?

Faliro

He is most likely staying. He is happy, the club is happy. He wants to try to go further in Europe next season and there is already safari (Greek joke word for scouting future players) going on with Marco and the technical team for next season.

I like to see Marco in another championship with a competitive team to see what he could do, since at the moment it seems unlikely that he come to Benfica

The league in Greece will be better next season most likely. AEL will be back and Panathinaikos are already spending like crazy now they are behind AEK! This winter they acquired Sebastian Leto, Boumale, Mesto, Moledo, Villafanez, Mamute, Evangelista etc out of complete desperation! PAOK will do the same in the summer. This is because AEK walked into second spot their first season back in the Super League! Next season AEL will be yet another fish in the pond.. AEK, PAOK and PAO have all changed managers and players like underwear this season. Next season, the fans wont tolerate losing as much as they did this season.

Wow, I have to sit down and watch this one!! ^^ Also never seen these kits before!

You should. It was a great run.

Olympiacos eventually fell to Atlético Madrid in the quarter-finals.

Cloughie

But Olympiakos will be in the CL 16/17?

That Cup cancelation by the Government won't have consequences?

Yea, I forgot to tell you guys. That communist Kontonis has done what they usually do. Ban things. He has passed no legislation in the face of horrific violence except to ban camera crews filming the violence at games.. which means less footage/identification of criminal hooligans - making the police's jobs even harder.

Kontonis was once student union leader of Greece - so he believes in sit-ins, strikes lasting years, closing down leagues and organisations etc to cause a reaction and solve the problem.. it never has worked then and wont work now. FIFA and UEFA sent a joint letter to him personally last week. Told him he has until April 1 to reinstate the Cup and that his Cup ban has nothing to do with solving any problem.. (he banned the cup to support PAOK/Savvidis and hurt Olympiacos - Both Tiger and Alafouzos supported kontonis to hurt Olympiacos and yet their own clubs.. who will also be banned from Europe - will suffer hugely  :estrelas:) This weak Lefkada was trashed by PAO hooligans (the women's basketball final was taking place on the island) and the week before OFI fans stormed the pitch and beat up the opposing team's players..broke their noses* each time Kontonis refuses to take action. He associates hooligans with Che Guevera and doesn't like arresting them..same with violent protestors.. he believes they are reacting to some unknown social virus.. like zombies.. :estrelas: Even though the police this year uncovered that most the hooligans in Greece are professional criminals who control the narcotics industry in certain areas and have links to terrorists. They also swap teams - to whoever is more likely to cause a riot - the same hooligans have been seen wearing PAO/PAOK and AEK tops.. :estrelas:

Kontonis said 4 times last week he wont change the ban.. his ego is peaking..so unless he does a Tsipras style 360 flip flop, Greek cluns will be banned from next year's CL and Europa Cups and the NT will be banned from WC quals.

Here is the letter from FIFA:

That video Gotts posted about the Olympiakos - PAO rivalry... jesus it seems like the press covers football all the time in Greece. And people complain that football is always on the news here.

Btw Faliro, how well do you think Greece fares for a small country at the Olympic games? I mean you guys pretty much created them, so surely people get excited about them?

Faliro

Greeks love football. They really do. And Greek football has just about survived the crisis because the foundations were strong. Here is a post from another forum I wrote:

CitaçãoI predicted a few things last summer. AEK would walk into second spot in the league due to Tiger knowing more about football than Savvidis and Alafouzos combined. And secondly, more violence due to the return of AEK and the pressures that will create among PAO and PAOK who will battle for third. Finally I predicted a more competitive league.

The league is not yet concluded, but one thing is for certain. The entry of AEK has made the league more competitive. This winter alone Alafouzos acquired Sebastian Leto, Boumale, Mesto, Moledo, Villafanez, Mamute, Evangelista etc out of complete desperation. AEK, PAO and POAK all changed managers like pairs of socks this season. These new players and managers show a capitalism - a type of meritocracy among the bigger clubs.

The highlight for me has been Panionios. A team constructed of 98% Greek players - sold its best player this winter and is still 5th.

I think next season with AEL back in the league, the league will be even more competitive. However, this depends on whether Kontonis does a Tsipras and does as 360 on the Cup. I think despite all the dark clouds of violence (that will never go without arrests), the future looks a little brighter for Greek football. A new AEK stadium, remodelled leoforo etc - Aris back in the League will make the league even better. Greek football has just about survived the crisis.

Greeks like the Olympic games and always hope for a Greek hero.. They watch athletics.. I would not say Greeks get excited about athletics though..

I will only start to watch the league once Aris is back. Hope next year they get promoted to the top flight. As for this year they have been doing great in the "3rd league".

They will rise next year to the Super League. Aris are one of the best supported teams in Greece. Their team is already better than most Championship teams (Greek second division).

We watch athletics, too. That one always seems to draw attention. Then again we've had gold medalists such as Fernanda Ribeiro, Rosa mota, Carlos Mota and Nélson Évora(still in the active, I think). Sadly Obikwelu never achieved gold, only silver. He's actually Nigerian, though.

Greeks actually make superb athletes. Greeks - many of them are very strong. What holds Greece back sometimes is the culture. However, Greece can always produce good atheletes at every level. Genetically they are far far bigger than the Turks and Italians either side of them. I have in my life seen many many many Greeks who have exactly the same build and Printezis for example.. real Ajax characters..

I know, I follow them quite often. I just hope that they dont fuck everything up next year.

People in the Balkans are quite tall. I've heard that in the Dinaric alps you'll find some of the tallest people in the world.

During Euro 2004 I saw a Croatian guy in Lisbon that must have been at least 2 meters tall.

A Bosnian girl also told me that my height(183cm) would be average for a man in the Balkans. She probably was hyperbolizing, but yeah, they're tall. The Dutch are tall as hell too. I've seen about 10 Dutch women that were taller than me.
