Actually we have one, but he missed his first (and only) chance and then he had to be replaced by Lima due to injury (which is going to be a pain in the ass). The plan was never to sub Cardozo for Lima but to have both on the field at the same time, they're our usual forwards in the starting lineup, though Lima has been pretty shitty this year.

To be honest, this is still not Benfica, and yet... it's the Benfica we're used to, unfortunately.

It's a shame that we were in a pathetic shape during our first three games.

Simply, because Olympiacos fans expected more. When they didn't get it, they made sure Marinakis got rid of him. They have done this to many managers.

Why did Olympiacos fans expect more? Very simple. Olympiacos fans are not stupid. They know they have the most expensive squad in Greece - by far. They also know they have the best stadium and best training facilities and even the most fans. Winning the league is expected even if a monkey was in charge.  What they demand however as supporters is sexy football. They want goals and entertainment. They don't want us playing conservatively and scraping a 1-0 over Levadiakos for example. When this happens they destroy the manager in the stadium by booing all game and usually quite soon he either quits or Marinakis removes him. The same happened to Ketsbaia in 2009.

How come you in serres?
I wish Benfica had a similar mentality these days. Today most fans don't care a lot about losing or winning, unfortunately. Many people go to the stadium like they go to the cinema: for entertainment purposes. They have a good time at the stadium, watch football, cheer if we win, boo if we lose and that's it.

Demanding stuff from the administration or from the technical staff has literally become something of the past century. Through the course of times Benfica has always been the people's club, but during this century we are getting more and more bourgeois.

Today there is no pressure from the Benfica fans. And if there is, it is in small proportion and uneffective in terms of changing policies. This president has been in office for 10 years now and we have won only 2 leagues, with Porto winning the rest. And this president is still very popular among the fans, which for me is unnaceptable.

I see no good prospects for Benfica in the near future.

Thanks for your opinions btw.

Congrats Faliro. I'm very frustrated with tonight's result. Benfica actually surprised me this evening and we played our best game so far. Beside your goal, it was a pacific game for our defenders. Sadly for us we were terrible at the end of the field and Roberto, who knew, killed us.

They say it's not over, but we all know it will be extremely hard to pass. Still... :)

I really enjoyed reading your comments. Feel free to participate as long as you wish.

Good luck.

@ Jase

Of course it gets out of hand sometimes. Olympiakos/Gate7 fans have a special relationship with the owner, they even discuss things and there have been alegations that he uses gate7 as a private army sometimes.. he famously offered another owner of a team for gate7 fans to go to a game make sure they cause trouble etc...If Olympiakos had played like they did tonight against any team in Greece, the fans would be booing our players. But like I said before they know Benfica's quality and they use balance..

PAO and AEK fans are famous for going to training and beating up their own players, coaches and smashing their cars if they feel they are not giving 100% on the pitch. AEK did this this year to their players before they got relegated. Smashed their cars and threatened their lives and silly things. What I am trying to say is you are right, in Greece the fans still feel they own their club and can influence its future which is quite rare these days. Logically for a club of your prestige - the owner should be under huge pressure seeing how Porto are just using the league like a dumping ground.

@Zlatan I am happy my team went through, but tonight was mad, without Roberto, easily 1-1 and the game would have been different as Michel would not have replaced Saviola with a defensive player. Michel at half time played to protect the 1-0. He saw how easily Benfica were controlling our midfield.

I think, you fans are very nice people and quite rare - you actually understand football very well and tactics. You have treated me well and I hope to stay and find ways to contribute, maybe if one day you play another Greek team or meet PAOK and can give you advice how to thrash them!!  O0

I'm particularly surprised with Panathinaikos and their change of stadium.

Actually, the situation with Panathinaikos was so funny - not for them - obviously they were horrified.. but for everyone else, it has been very entertaining. A couple of seasons ago they got a rich backer called Pateras. He spent a lot of their money, they had Cisse and other players.., they finally won the league. Then he left due to fights in the boardroom and another idiot took over. The club sold all its players and became very weak. They were playing at the national stadium - OAKA last season (their dream of a new independent stadium at Votanikos died) where they have played for years - this is a very big stadium, over 70,000 seats. However they could not afford the electricity bill and the lights were shut off.. So they complained, but of course no one listened - you don't pay, no lights.. So they had to play their games at the stadium during the day!!!  :smokin:

Then their new  'leader' (their club is owned by their fans like Barcelona) decided to take them back to their historical ground at leoforos.. he spent a tiny bit of money to make the stadium usable and that is their home now. They are a dying club.

Also it seems the picture of Portugal with two dominating teams is quite similar to Greece. That is why it is vital in my opinion AEK return, they have a huge following. I don't care so much about Panathinaikos - watching them suffer is very satisfying. They spend their existence complaining about referees and creating conspiracy theories about why they are shit.

Que parecenças loucas com o foculporto no último parágrafo.
A mim não me surpreende nadinha. O Olympiacos sempre teve a fama.
E tanto quanto sei, o proveito...

I think you'll win, unfortunately. I have no expectations for today so I can't imagine a victory for us. :(
:(

I had a déjà vu of Europa League final against Chelsea because of the fact that we were unable to score a unique goal... Good game by Roberto, btw.

I think we'll going to Europa League (one more time), but we need to win against Anderlecht or the last position (of the group) is ours.

Congrats for the victory, good luck to the rest of your campaign and participate whenever you want. :)

Faliro what do you think about Miguel Vitor?

I think he is a very useful player. He likes to score - like Manolas - from set pieces and he is a competent defender and brings a positive attitude. PAOK just need another one of him, because katsouranis has been lame as his CB partner. Is you meet PAOK, you should have no problem creating some goals.

We faced PAOK back in 99/00 for the UEFA Cup. Epic PK shootout that was. I admit I've had a soft spot for PAOK ever since hahaha :D

Parabéns ao foculporto da Grécia...
Herdaram o ranço dos seus colegas portugueses...está visto.
