Thought this would be an interesting topic - if it fails - I take full responsibility! :rir:
I noticed that myself and a lot of other friends had Grandparents from various villages and towns rather than big cities. It will interesting to learn a bit about the town and the culture/history there.
So I will pick a maternal Grandfather (mother's father) to start with.
The town is called Leonidion and is in Arcadia, Southern Greece. It is situated at the foot of the Parnon mountain range.

I saw this just now when I started researching the place. The town seems a good example of modern and traditional.
Since we had a change of party in the head of Mayor in 2013 (from the center-right PSD to the center-left PS), Vila Real has changed and improved a lot after 20 years of stagnation.
In 2018, we will have the conclusion and opening of 2 private hospitals.
In the upcoming years we will have a new outdoor pool and a complete reshape of Codessais complex, new construction works outsider Municipal Stadium in Monte da Forca and the Carvalho Araújo square will be reshaped too.
Good times to live here. :)
What is impressive is how developed Portugal is. Parts of Spain would only dream of this infrastructure.

I'm from Belgrade, but both of my parents came there to study, from different parts of former Yugoslavia.
My maternal grandfather's village in Herzegovina is at the bottom of the lake. They were building a dam and an artificial lake, so they flooded the village. They received a compensation to build houses in the neighbouring town of Trebinje, one of my favorite places, where I go to relax.
Trebinje has a population of 32.000 it is 40 km away from Dubrovnik and Mostar. It has a prominent role in our culture and history as it is a hometown of many famous people: two of our best actors of younger generation, famous Serbian poet Jovan Ducic, Serbian Saint Vasilije Ostroški. People there are exceptionally tall and well-built so a number of our celebrated basketball players were born there or hail from there: Bodiroga, Gurovic, Radmanovic, Danilovic. Also football players: Gacinovic, Cimirot and Vladimir Gudelj who played for Celta. FK Leotar Trebinje was the first champion of BiH league.

Portugal big citys are almost all concentrated on the atlantic side of our country, close to the Ocean.
For decades, there was almost no investment on the interior of the country, but things are starting to change :)

My parents are both from Fervença, Celorico de Basto. They were neighbors in childhood and it's very cool because all my family is from here. So, when I go to Fervença with my parents we have big lunches and dinners with all family.

For me, the most positive thing from Fervença it's the localization. It's in the middle of three big districts in the north of Portugal (Porto, Braga and Vila Real). This allow to visit some places in this districts very easily.

50 Km. But we have a long history with Nazaré. A lot of nazarenes come to Peniche to fishing. We have a important fishing port. In old days there as a lot of rivality between both people.
Still today when e make jokes about mocking with other people. We don't use Alentejanos (people form alentejo) like the commun portugueses but Nazarenos. :)

Me and my sister never liked it much even though we spent loads of time there in our youth, it has a really poor cellphone and internet coverage.
It's the middle of nowhere, but you can't deny the beauty of the wild forests and small streams.
Well at the least till the last summer when the black replaced the green caused by huge wildfires all over the place.
On the other hand, my father was born in a small peaceful city called Tomar, where I live at the moment.

That's funny because I thought many spaniards thought Portugal resembles Spain in the 80s in terms of infrastructure and development. I believe Spain is more developed overall, then again it's much larger, so I'm sure its bad parts are also larger. What are the most developed parts of Spain? Basque country, Madrid and Catalonia, i assume?
The wealthiest regions in Portugal are Lisbon, Algarve and Madeira, I think. Portugal has a problem in the interior. The interior is not that populated and doesn't offer as many opportunities as the coastal areas do.

I can only speak for the region of my forefathers - Catalunya. It is exceptionally developed. However there are vast swathes of wilderness - just wastelands in between Barcelona and Madrid. The parts of Spain that lack development are mostly in the south and places likes Extramadura. From what I have seen on this thread Portugal blows away the rural communities there - unless every member of Serbenfiquista just happens to come from excellent towns!
Greece? Athens has state of the art infrastructure. Roads, trains, sewage processing - it is advanced. The rest of Greece? meh.. :whistle2: The Portiuguese towns win I think. The region my maternal Grandfather comes from (first post) now have state of the art roads - which is excellent. Takes just over 2.30 hours to now drive from Athens to Kalamata. Before it was ridiculous.

I believe Angola currently has one of the highest White populations of Sub-Saharan Africa. Only Zimbabwe and South Africa have higher ones, I think. Maybe Namibia as well? Not sure if the majority of them are Portuguese, though. Luanda probably attracts people from other parts of Europe and people from the Americas as well.

Plenty. During the war many Angolan-Portuguese couldnt adapt to the new life in Europe and after the war they moved back to Angola. Many other thousands stayed there and other few thousands imigrated on the last 20 years.
For me in this migration circle there is 3 main groups. The mixed (Portuguese-Angolan/Angolan-Portuguese), the Portuguese (with no conection to Angola) and the Angolans (with no conection to Portugal).
Is dificult to estimate an exact number of Portuguese-Angolan/Angolan-Portuguese but some statistics says there are 126.000 (2015) Portuguese-Angolan (39.000 registered in the Portuguese embassy in Luanda) in Angola and 162 604 (2011) Angolans (39.000 registered in the Angolan embassy in Lisbon).
These numbers are always dificult to quantify exatly because many people have dual nationality or simply live their life as Portuguese or Angolan.

My grandparents are from the northeastern town of Bragança, the capital of the Trás-os-Montes province (literally "behind-the-mountains") and hometown of Pizzi.
It is a very special region and although now you can reach the town in a 2 hour car ride from Porto, for centuries it was far away from the centers of power, very close to the Spanish border on the northeast of the country.

Indeed! Tavira is located in a touristic region called Algarve, where you can find plenty of pleasant places to spend a holiday. Try to find out more about Algarve in the internet.
As an advise, the best time in the year to spend holidays there is between mid-June and mid-July. The sea water is warm and it's not so crowded.

This is from another village really close to Fundão, sadly found no photos of the small village.
Me and my sister never liked it much even though we spent loads of time there in our youth, it has a really poor cellphone and internet coverage.
It's the middle of nowhere, but you can't deny the beauty of the wild forests and small streams.
Well at the least till the last summer when the black replaced the green caused by huge wildfires all over the place.
On the other hand, my father was born in a small peaceful city called Tomar, where I live at the moment.
