Greeks love football. They really do. And Greek football has just about survived the crisis because the foundations were strong. Here is a post from another forum I wrote:

CitaçãoI predicted a few things last summer. AEK would walk into second spot in the league due to Tiger knowing more about football than Savvidis and Alafouzos combined. And secondly, more violence due to the return of AEK and the pressures that will create among PAO and PAOK who will battle for third. Finally I predicted a more competitive league.

The league is not yet concluded, but one thing is for certain. The entry of AEK has made the league more competitive. This winter alone Alafouzos acquired Sebastian Leto, Boumale, Mesto, Moledo, Villafanez, Mamute, Evangelista etc out of complete desperation. AEK, PAO and POAK all changed managers like pairs of socks this season. These new players and managers show a capitalism - a type of meritocracy among the bigger clubs.

The highlight for me has been Panionios. A team constructed of 98% Greek players - sold its best player this winter and is still 5th.

I think next season with AEL back in the league, the league will be even more competitive. However, this depends on whether Kontonis does a Tsipras and does as 360 on the Cup. I think despite all the dark clouds of violence (that will never go without arrests), the future looks a little brighter for Greek football. A new AEK stadium, remodelled leoforo etc - Aris back in the League will make the league even better. Greek football has just about survived the crisis.

Greeks like the Olympic games and always hope for a Greek hero.. They watch athletics.. I would not say Greeks get excited about athletics though..
I will only start to watch the league once Aris is back. Hope next year they get promoted to the top flight. As for this year they have been doing great in the "3rd league".

They will rise next year to the Super League. Aris are one of the best supported teams in Greece. Their team is already better than most Championship teams (Greek second division).
I know, I follow them quite often. I just hope that they dont fuck everything up next year.

They are in good hands. Karapidis, very clever owner of Veria, abandoned Veria this season and took control of Aris. This was hard to do because Aris is a democratic club so he had to win the vote. He finally won and now controls Aris. Veria is now needing a new owner.

Karapidis - who is rich (I am not sure how much as I could not find his wealth online - seems to hide it..) said that Aris has no limits to how big the club can become. He willed the Aris team with the best Veria players!! and stated he will increase the size of the stadium too. Aris will work very very very hard to get into the Super League next season.

People in the Balkans are quite tall. I've heard that in the Dinaric alps you'll find some of the tallest people in the world.

During Euro 2004 I saw a Croatian guy in Lisbon that must have been at least 2 meters tall.

A Bosnian girl also told me that my height(183cm) would be average for a man in the Balkans. She probably was hyperbolizing, but yeah, they're tall. The Dutch are tall as hell too. I've seen about 10 Dutch women that were taller than me.

Dutch are ridiculously tall. Used to watch them down the Rambla as tourists, looked like achne ridden monsters.

The difference with the Greek monster type is they are heavy too. Samaris is actually quite rare. Most Greeks who approach 2 meters are usually built. Again, this is not gym every day, they are just naturally massive. Most these guys dont even go into sport, just sit in cafes, very tranquil guys, but they are massive. You just have to look at the Spanish basketball team. Tall but thin as hell. Than look at the Greek team..

Kontonis replied to the FIFA ultimatum today and said he will not reinstate the Greek Cup!

So bye bye CL, Europa and WC!

Hopefully they won't be banned.

Trapattoni

According to "Ojogo" which is the most reliable source in terms of Portuguese newspapers Benfica already has a deal to purchase Mitroglou for 4 more seasons, i think this news made my day, i just love the guy as it was always a dream of mine to see him play for Benfica, he is just one special kind of players that it is very hard for fans not to have a bond with him
Especialy if you take into account the number of times he scored decisive goals against rivals

Great news  :metal: I really hope this is confirmed.
