He brilliantly reached the semi-finals of the European Championship, only losing to eventual winners Spain on penalty-kicks. One of our best performances of all time.

The only real failure with the NT was the World Cup in Brazil. However, many great managers have had such failures. Paulo isn't the first nor will he be the last one to experience those dire disappointments.

This idea that Bento is a terrible coach is more a product of prejudice against his personality than objective reasoning.

He failed at Cruzeiro, failed at the NT, failed at spitting lizards, failed at dealing with players at personal level, failed and still fails at dealing with media, failed at getting a decent haircut. Paulo Bento will of course win with Olympiakos but will always be a failure.

So much hate lol. He did great Jobs in Sporting and NT. But Ronaldo and his ego are always dangerous.

Because Bento's ego has never caused problems. The "frango assado" issue never happened at spitting lizards. Bosingwa, Carvalho, Simão etc issues never happened in the NT. Well in Cruzeiro he didnt have issues, ill give you that. He got his ass fired so fast he didnt have time to.

It was Ronaldo who sent away Carvalho.
Ca'mon...

That was Carvalho fault. He was a diva in that situation.

Bento's squad for the crunch game in Cyprus! Maybe the youngest squad I have ever seen Olympiacos take to an important European game :o

Αndroutsos (19), Bouxalakis (23), Cambiasso (36), Χουτesιoτis (22), Da Costa (30), De La Bella (30), Dominguez (35), Εlionousi (28), Figueiras (25), Fortounis (24), Ideye (28), Leali (23), Μanthatis (19), Martins (26), Nikolaou (18), Romao (32), Seba (24), Skafidas (17), Τsιmίκαs (20), Vιάnα (21).

Important game? Not really.

Important game for Olympiacos fans. For non-Olympiacos fans.. not important.

If we win - we get an easier team in the next round. If we draw or lose - we are most likely heading for a very bad raping next game in the Europa - most likely from a team that finished third in a CL group. We don't like getting raped. Also Olympiacos wants to salvage pride and gain revenge from getting beaten at home by the Cypriots.  :boxing:

Some current 3rd placed teams in the CL for example:

and us..

You can win the group and play against a Champions League team.

Indeed, but the point being, if we win, we are seeded for the Round of 32 and have a better chance at getting a weaker team - than if we lose or draw and enter the Round of 32 unseeded.

In Europa League that is random. Seeded or unseeded is more or less irrelevant.
