Olympiacos Piraeus

Faliro

Truly excellent game. Very Latin - could have been played in a South American country. End to end. We sneaked the 0-1.

Martins had very good words to say about Aris after the game and their coach and they deserved it. Unlucky not to get something from the game.

My ratings:

Sa 8. Strong and stable.
Vukovic 6. Still not sold.
Cisse 7. Rock.
Koutris 8. MVP for me. Should be a starter for the NT. No one near him at LB. Dynamic, strong, clever.
El Ab 6. Steady.
Bouxa 4. No sure what Martins's fascination is for him other than his height.
Guilherme 6. Nothing special but steady.
Fortounis 1. Slow, stubborn, wrecked attacking moves - missed a shot easier than the one Fetfa was crucified for. He was working against us today.
Lazaros 3. Weak on the ball, poor positioning. Poor control. Gave nothing.
Podence 8. tried non-stop.
Hassan 8. Hit the mark when asked and was not even fully fit.

BTW, what's going on with Natcho?

I thought he had more minutes by now...

Came unfit and with slight injuries - he asked for time to get fully fit.

He is playing at the moment actually vs Panaxaiki in the Cup.

Super player imo - eternally underrated. Beautiful control on the ball - pure professional. Very attacking instincts too. I am happy the Circassian is with us.

He has always been a player distinct from everyone else in the clubs he has been through due to his quality and leadership.

I hope he gets rid of the injuries!

His beautiful inside-out ball to Koutris (who squared it first time to Hassan) undid a resolute Aris and made the difference tonight:

The idol himself, never seen a player more idolised by Olympiacos fans, brought from Barcelona (Sporting, Benfica and Celta were in the running) in his prime when Greek football still meant something:

Rivaldo wasn't better in Olympiakos?

Rivaldo wasn't better in Olympiakos?

It is a good question. Technically Rivaldo was excellent for Olympiacos. Scored a good amount of goals etc. There are a few key differences. Giovanni only ever played for Olympiacos - Rivaldo signed for AEK after Oly and stated he 'loved' the club. Secondly Giovanni was really more of an attacking midfielder and Rivaldo a little more of a striker so goals to games are not really a decider. Giovanni is a deeply spiritual person. He only signed for Olympiacos because two people mentioned Greece to him while he was on holiday in Brazil and he believed it was sign from God. I started following Olympiacos when Giovanni could no longer run and actually damaged the team he was so slow. I never knew him in the days when even opposition fans praised him. Giovanni is an emotional guy too, Rivaldo colder.

To this day Olympiacos fans adore Giovanni.

olympiacos fans like more basket or football?

I would say football but often fans just cross the street after games to watch Olympiacos Basketball, the stadium is right next to the Basketball arena. Basketball is also very well attended by Olympiacos fans.

Here were the fans tonight as we beat Real Madrid in Faliro (in fact I should post this for StellaRojas in his section- a massive dedication to a redstar fan who died in Istanbul - in Serbian):

In fact not only fans, but Olympiacos footballers constantly go to the Olympiacos basketball games.

Tonight Fortounis and Guerrero went (BTW Guerrero's companion..)

Faliro, what are some rather well known clubs Olympiacos has never faced in official matches?

Benfica has never faced either of the following afaik:

Rangers(not even a friendly, afaik?!)
Manchester City
Valencia
Nottingham Forrest
Leeds United
Hamburg
Panathinaikos

As for Portugal, we've never faced Italy at the Euro or the WC nor Argentina at the WC. We've never faced Japan outside of friendlies either.

Wow that is really weird. I was especially shocked by the Valencia one. It is a shame you have not played Panathinaikos because you may have broke some records had you played them.. 9-0.. I could imagine something ridiculous like that.

To be honest, I have no idea as to your question! I would not even know where to look!

Yes, PAO are crap..

Wow, Olympiacos seems to have played Benfica a huge amount compared to other teams..

Straight off from your list it seems Olympiacos has never played Inter. I looked for them immediately because I can't remember a game between us.  Also weird we have never played Fener or Spartak. We also like Benfica have not played Forest, Rangers or City.

Not that I have checked their records, but I don't believe either Sporting or Porto have ever faced Tottenham? Don't recall Sporting ever facing Liverpool. Liverpool have faced both Benfica and Porto several times and also has faced Braga and Boavista(one of the games was on September 11 2001 even) before. But I can't remember them facing Sporting ever.

I'm not sure if Sporting have ever faced Fenerbahçe before. I recall them facing Besiktas, but not Fenerbahçe. No idea about Galatasaray either.

Ok I checked Sporting's wiki page. They haven't faced Liverpool or Tottenham in Europe ever. Or Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe.
