I can provide an overview of our most important players today:

1. Guelor Kanga- 27 year old

We brought this Gabonian from Rostov ( Russia) for a hefty sum for our standards. And he did not start out really well. He got a stupid red card ( for pushing a player) in what was our last year's most important match in CL qualifiers against Ludogorets Razgrad. We lost that match after 2:2 in Razgrad and even though we were 1:0 up in Belgrade.
Kanga has become our most important player in this season and the brain of the team, taking us to the EL group with his assists and great goals, like this amazing long-range effort against Krasnodar:

As you can see from this clip below he is a very dangerous long-range shooter, who can not be given one inch of a free space because he will use it:

His problem is that he is irresponsible in defensive play, almost never participating in defense and sometimes complicating too much and losing the ball in our half. However, when Kanga plays, Zvezda plays. His passes are accurate and he has good vision and creativity even though his not a fancy dribbler.

Richmond Boakye- 24 year old

We brought Richmond from Italy, where he played for Juventus, Sassuolo, Atalanta. Our top scorer, with 7 goals and 3 assists in Europa League:

Not only that he is a great scorer who converts his chances, but also opens space for other players in the team, especially Kanga, with his movements and ability to drag 2-3 defenders on himself and away from other players.

He attracted a lot of interests from EPL, Chelsea and Everton were mentioned. In our last match against Arsenal, our box was filled with those who came to watch Boakye. Unfortunately, he succumbed to pressure and missed some clear cut chances:

Nemanja Radonjic- 21 year old

Our most talented player, the problem child of Serbian football, Serbian Ravel Morrison. He was rated as being more talented than Zivkovic, but he preferred partying and eating unhealthy food over playing football. As a result, he lost 4 years and was on the verge of leaving football. He was bought by Roma when he was 17, but he ended up in Red Star, joining is in July.

As you can see, he is incredibly fast and does many times in the game the same what you saw in that clip, because hardly anyone can stop when he hits his top gear. He needs to improve his decision-making and learn to raise his head when he cuts into the box. He is expected to shine even more in the second half of the season. Scored 2 important goals for us in EL.

Nice to hear that.. Especially nowadays, when even Serbian kids support Real Madrid, Barcelona etc..I also have a lot of respect and liking for Benfica, another red and white team and European giant.

Mitchell Donald- 28-year old- defensive midfielder<br />

The product of Ajax school of football, Donald is the first foreign player to become a captain in our club's history. And rightfully so. Donald is a real human dynamo of our team. Known for his uncompromising play, he covers a lot of space, is an excellent tackler and often participates in our transition from defense to attack, distributing balls to our offensive players.

He also has a very solid shoot from the distance and has been our set-piece taker as of late.

He probably can not play at the highest level, in one of the best five leagues. But for any other team, playing in other leagues, he would be a very welcome addition.

Vujadin Savić- 27 year old- central defender

Vujadin Savic is the son of our club legend Dušan Savić. When he was young, many fans doubted his abilities, believing that he was playing only because of his famous father. He then left for France, Germany, Moldova...playing average. He returned to Zvezda this summer, much to a dismay of many fans. But he has proven all of them wrong. He is having a renaissance right now, a lot of people believe that he should receive a call-up for a World Cup. He made EL team of the round for his performance against Arsenal. He is tall 1.94 m ( dominant in air), but not slow, in fact he is pretty quick for a central defender, has a good control of the ball and is not prone to mistakes, reads the game well. The most important of all, when he plays for Zvezda, and only for Zvezda..he puts his head where others would not put their leg.

I have already written that Dušan Savić scored that famous goal in London in 1978. knocking Arsenal out of the UEFA cup. Well, Vujadin almost did the same.

Unfortunately, he hit the bar ( 0:14). That would have made a great story.

Damien Le Tallec- 27-year old- central defender/ defensive midfielder

Le Tallec had somewhat unusual career path, to say the least. He started out as a striker, captaining French u17 team, Borussia Dortmund bought him, but he did not really get a chance. We bought him as a defensive midfielder and he is partnering Savic as a central defender ( only Copenhagen and Salzburg have received less goals than Zvezda in EL). I can say it is a shame he did not start out as a central defender, because he would have been playing in one of the top leagues by now. He also made the EL team of the round for his performance against Cologne.

He is also pretty tall, 1.85 m, has an excellent technique for a defender, calm on the ball, good positioning, and is a permanent danger when we are taking a corner kick. He does not have the pace to be a defensive midfielder.

Filip Stojković- 24 year old- right back

Filip came through the ranks of our youth academy, but was never given a chance with the first team. After establishing himself at FK Čukarički, he signed for 1860 Munich and returned to Zvezda this summer, after they relegated from the 2nd German league. Another one who is playing beyond expectations. His performance against Krasnodar is a doctoral thesis on how a right back should play. His crosses are not always accurate, but his defensive play is consistently great. He rarely falls out of his position and is very fast. He has the quality to play in much stronger leagues.

Slavoljub Srnić- 25 year old- right winger

Another who did not get a chance with our first team, immediately after graduating from our youth academy. This year, he has established himself as one of our best players, scoring an important goal that paved our road to the EL.

He is not a fancy player, one who amazes with his dribbles, but he is a fast player, who has an excellent technique, can cross pretty accurately and is very responsible defensively, often helping out our right back Stojkovic.

Milan Borjan- 30 year old- goalkeeper

In this century, we had Predrag Rajkovic, we had Vladimir Stojkovic, ex Sporting goalkeeper, whom you, no doubt, know as the " world's best goalkeeper" , but Borjan is, in my mind, the best so far. In his best years as a goalkeeper, he saved our ass many times this season.
