Benfica could move for Man Utd target

The Portuguese champions are on the lookout for new signings in defence as one of their star players Ezequiel Garay reportedly closes in on a move to Russian giants Zenit Saint Petersburg.

The Argentine centre-back had been a top target for a host of other elite European clubs after establishing himself as one of the top defenders in Europe, and the club are keen to sign a high quality replacement for their departing star.

Manolas is another player attracting a great deal of attention this summer, with the likes of Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus all linked with him in recent times after his fine form in Greece.

The 22-year-old will no doubt make a big move at some point in the near future, and could see Benfica as a good stepping stone for him at this moment in his career.

"There is some interest from Benfica after Garay's departure," a source close to the player revealed. "There could be other offers as well, we'll see, but I think he would be interested in a team like Benfica."
