People with self-confidence and who make their confidence be noted. People who are wrongly seen as arrogants. That was what I was talking about when mentioned ego-related stuff.

The problem is that common people are the true arrogants. Can't see shit beyond their own values and conceptions.

I believe that the future of humanity lies within one's self, through cultivating our interests and hobbies, sharing opinions with others and simply taking the most rational decisions.
Yes, that is what we can call the manifestations of the ego. That's what he wants, want's to be better than others, to be noticed and to be in control.

The problem is really ignorance, not of any knowledge of this world, but for who they really are. What are they , and where they came from. Or have you never asked yourself that?

I agree with you. And it is by finding out who someone is that we can cultivate our egos, passions, interests and knowledge. At least it should be like this as I see things.

Cultivating our own egos is different from spitting our egos in everyone's face. The former is good, the latter not so good. Especially when you have so many people spitting in everybody's face who shouldn't even get out of bed in the morning.

Few points were I see how much we still suck:

- Justice: It's not a hyperbole to say that simply there isn't one portuguese who believes in it.

- Education: Back in the day you could tell who went to University and who did not. Nowadays, most of the times, I can't tell the diference between a College degree guy and a Carpenter(with all due respect to Carpenters).

- Politicians: Bunch of demagogues with no real interests in the evolution of our country or society, they just want to look good on the picture and follow their party political agenda.

- Social Corruption Acception: Yes, this exists in Portugal. You can be corrupt, dishonest, a liar, and so one, but if it was for the greater good or if it was profitable for me...then it's ok. They can walk around, be presidents of a Municipality, Football Club, big Public Company, talk on TV, give interviews to the newspapers...

- General Envy on Anybody Who Succeeds: Self-Explanatory.

- Elections: The amount of non voters rivalizes with the Animal Kingdom.

- Opinions: Everyone has a opinion, Economics, Quantum Physics, Renaissance Movement, you just name it.

- It's always not our fault in the first place: That's right, those damn Germans!

- TVI/Correio da Manha/Casa dos Segredos: The Hand That Feeds.

Geesh, had no ideia that Athens was so big....

Well...I disagree with you, I don't want to cultivate my ego, I want is to watch him and keep him quietly.

Mmmm... I see. Thanks.

Well, it's not like we don't have our own neighbourhoods and cities that are a sore for the eye, especially around Lesbian, but it's not like we destroyed our own historic centres (if you close your eyes for some cases). The fact that there were no WW's conflicts here might've helped a bit.

The urbanism in Poortugal is also masterclass. The best guy we had was already more than 250 years ago, and he did well because he was miming France.

You're misunderstanding. Don't you want to evolve in every sense? Like culturally, or being successful, having more knowledge... that's what I'm talking about. I'm not talking about crazy authoritarian stuff.  ;D

The Athens of 1850 is not the Athens of 2014.

If you see Athens as a refugee centre after 1922 it is more understandable. These million plus Greeks lost everything. They had been living in Anatolia since Homeric times. They came to Athens starving - begging for food. Athens took them all and the city expanded with no control. Greeks are very aware of the good life, even then. Every block has balconies, at least 2-3 bedrooms, it was a time of great destruction, but now I think I understand, it was a time of humanity... It was also the birth of a different Greece.

These greeks from turkey missed their homes so badly, so badly. They cried so hard. Greeks from greece didn't care for them so much - or relate to them. Therefore, these new Greeks from Anatolia rebuilt the clubs they had left behind to remind them of their roots. Pera club of Istanbul (one of the big Greek clubs of Istanbul) became AEK (Athletic union of Constantinople)  and PAOK in Salonika respectively. The Orpheus club of Smyrna became Panionios. The areas they built in Athens were all named after where they came from... Neos Kosmas (literally - new People) Nea Smyrni (New Smyrna), Nea Ionia (New Ionia), Tavros... these are all the names of the places they came from..

It was a heart breaking time, but at least they survived and can live to tell the story.

No, I'm not misunderstanding. I have no desire of being successful or more knowledgeable. This desires may have existed or even exist in the case of know more stuff here and there, but when you have a certain point of view, you can see clearly that this desires are from the ego/personality.

Interesting perspective. So you're happy as you are and don't intend to develop any kind of new thoughts and stuff?

And why do you say this comes from the ego/personality? I'd say this comes from pure passion of knowledge, but that's how I see things. Of course that's connected with the ego but it isn't the main focus.

Similar to the Retornados here in Portugal, who came from the african colonies after 1974. Except for the part of the sports clubs.

I'm not talking about their looks, what I meant is that a good Japanese is a pure Japanese when it comes to personality, culture, etc. With all its pros and cons (a lot of cons), that's what makes it interesting.

A Japanese Brazilian is just a Brazilian with a widescreen.

Don't be an idealist.... I have many friends who dated Japanese, they can be just as fucked up mentally as western girls - more so even. Neurotic is the word you most often hear..

Japan is like Italy. They are masters of visual selling of their culture. To find the little squeaky japanese girls in anime/Jporn/ tv shows is rare in real life... That is why japan has one of the lowest rates of sex between men and women anywhere on earth..  The image of Japanese female culture does not match the reality... if it did, I would sending this post from Shinjuku.. The Japanese know how to sell fantasy. I love their culture and I like to delve into the fantasy of their culture industry, but I know the reality also.

One of the most beautiful thing about Brazilian women is they actually like men and enjoy sex.
You know who else are masters of selling their visual culture? Fucking South Korea. They sure love their plastic surgeries there.
