Olympiacos Piraeus

Covenant

Olympiakos, AEK and Panathinaikos only have players dropped by other clubs. Cardozo is old, Marin changes the club every 6 months, Cambiasso is old, Manuel da Costa and Botia are trash... Only a few guys are really good. In Europe if Olympiakos play always on attack it's honra be worse...

Football is results, but like you always said here.. Greeks are crazy.

The team is trash - but compared to AEK, PAO and PAOK - we are Real Madrid. That is the first point. It is not good to lump us in with the other garbage in the league.

Secondly, our team has consistently beaten teams worth many many times our budget at home. Playing to protect a 1-1 against young boys was a low point. It was a low point because we have players who can easily hurt them and run at them.. but instead we stuck with seba who can barely control the ball.. in fact Bento only made one substitution. The Kerkyra game was even worse. It really isn't difficult to comprehend.. you don't need tw0 defensive mids against a team like Kerkyra.. Jardim learnt that the hard way.. that at 0-0 against a team worth less than 10 million is no massive accomplishment. Maybe someone who doesn't understand the first thing about Greek football would see the 0-0 as valuable.. but in reality.. no.. :estrelas:

Having said this - if Bento was incharge of PAO - even playing the way he makes team play - PAO would worship him. A 0-0 against Kerkyra for PAO is a solid point - for Olympiacos it is a humiliation.

Bento's final problem favourites.. The problem with Bento like many coaches is he has favourites. One of those is Seba. Seba has a few bad games - yet he usually finds himself in the 11 regardless until he has a good game. Where as other players can have a good game (Pardo, Marin, Domingues) - but next fixture they are dropped from the squad. For example it seems the rumours Marin was lazy in training are false:

http://www.sport-fm.gr/article/podosfairo/oi-roufianoi-lene-pws-o-marin-douleuei-sklira/3245408

If Bento was confident however about why we play bad - or at least had a theory - I would listen. But he seems just as confused as the fans are of his choices - which is never good.

Marin was lazy in Anderlecht, Trabzonspor  etc... Of course he isn't in Olympiakos.

Well we have lots of people watching practice every day - so many we had to build a stand for them - when they say he is working hard - I tend to believe them..

Of course they all could be lying - granted - but there have been no reports of anyone slacking in practice under Bento. We have had players in the past who did not push in practice. They were named and shamed.

Incidentally, Giannina are now 2nd in the league.  :whistle2:

They were promoted this year?

Faliro

Naa. They are usually in the top league - stealing points off everyone. They buy good players cheap and give AEK, PAOK and PAO big problems. Their stadium looks like something from a soviet village in the 1980s..

The city is beautiful though..

=================================================

Incidentally - in the most entertaining game of the season Atromitos beat PAOK 3-4 in the Toumba yesterday! Ivic (PAOK coach) immediatly said certain players had sabotaged the team!! Tzavellas (alfa male and full back) was subsequently put into the youth team! He is refusing to train with them. The owner Savvidis said he was so embarrassed he would not watch a game again at the Toumba!

Meanwhile AEK could only draw against a village team today in the cup! 2-2 with Karditsa! PAO should have lost 4-0 to Panionios on the weekend but managed a lucky goal at the death and escaped with a 1-1 as Panionios missed big chances! Greek football is really on fire!

I confess this is the first time I've heard of them. Seems a nice club.

Very beautiful city  O0

I am afraid that if Paulo Bento wins a national league, some physics law gets corrupted and the whole universe collapses...

He will win it.

He's a solid coach.

He seems solid alright. Even more after he retired as a player.

His work at Sporting was absolutely fantastic by any angle you look at it.

He's still relatively young. All coaches have bad moments and failures every now and then, but only the good ones pass the test of time.

Paulo's still here, kicking ass and taking names.

Of course. The outstanding 2 cups he won since he started his coaching career in 2005 speaks for himself. Amazing coach. 2 major titles in 11 years is a record one must respect.

Sure. What about national team context? Destroyed the team spirit, created conflicts, players retired from national team...

He brilliantly reached the semi-finals of the European Championship, only losing to eventual winners Spain on penalty-kicks. One of our best performances of all time.

The only real failure with the NT was the World Cup in Brazil. However, many great managers have had such failures. Paulo isn't the first nor will he be the last one to experience those dire disappointments.

This idea that Bento is a terrible coach is more a product of prejudice against his personality than objective reasoning.
